The term “stratagem” comes from a Latin word that Roman generals used to refer to innovative, clever maneuvers used to defeat their enemies and achieve their objectives.  As our name implies, Business Stratagem Support Group (BSSG) believes in using strategic, innovative plans and tactics to support you in achieving an objective – a much more safe and secure environment for your business or government entity.

In today's global economy, it is more important than ever for businesses to consider security as an integral part of their business program.  This means taking pro-active and preventive steps, while also being prepared to respond in an effective manner if the prevention measures fail.

Threats/Solutions

Businesses and government both face a variety of constantly evolving threats in the 21st Century.  This includes internal and external theft, industrial espionage, workplace violence, internal and external fraud, terrorism, natural disaster, accidents and instability.  To deal with these fluid threats, many decide to use the same old approaches:  deploy security officers and/or some specialized security equipment.  They assume that more guards or equipment will give them better security, especially because the security providers they have talked with -- the guard companies, the alarm companies and the closed circuit television companies -- have told them they need their equipment and services.  All too often, this approach results in ineffective security and wastes money because these security providers are only providing what is in their inventory and their current comfort zone.  It is essential for the components that make up the solution to be fully integrated and complementary.  Additionally, security measures must provide at least four functions: deterrence, detection, delay and response.  All of those functions must be present if security is to be truly effective.

Risks

BSSG believes the most efficient, effective security approach is risk-based and allows the business unit to manage their risk.  We use the latest risk assessment methodologies and have experience at assessing risks (threats, vulnerabilities and consequences) for businesses and government entities as small as a single office or building, up to global companies with facilities around the world.  BSSG recognizes the risk is constantly changing and believes a good security approach must change and adjust to the risk.

BSSG’s Comprehensive Asset Protection Program (CAPP) is a good example.  Once we know your most critical resources, BSSG can determine the modus operandi of those who pose a threat to those resources, check the effectiveness of your existing approach (vulnerability) and design an enhanced program to protect your assets – your people, your intellectual property, your equipment and other resources.  In the CAP Program we use tailored approaches that can include:  effective security policies and procedures, education and awareness, compliance audits, hotlines and other reporting methods, intelligence analysis, undercover operations, rewards and watch groups, covert surveillance, sting operations and covert markings to assist in recovery of assets when prevention and deterrence fails.  All of these techniques can be used to protect a variety of hard assets through a coalition that cuts the expense by sharing the expense of some of the programs but gives each company an approach that is unique to their business entity.
